Over the next three years, Western Australia will celebrate the King's Birthday public holiday on

  • 29 September 2025,
  • 28 September 2026 and
  • 27 September 2027.

Under the Public and Bank Holidays Act 1997, WA local governments may request the King's Birthday public holiday be celebrated on an alternative date of significance within its district, instead of the date proclaimed for the rest of the State.

Since as early as 1996, the City of Karratha has been celebrating the Royal Sovereign's birthday public holiday on the first Monday in August to coincide with the community-run FeNaCING Festival. Community groups also schedule major sporting events over this long weekend.

Council will be deciding the King's Birthday public holiday dates for the next three years at its meeting to be held 17 February 2025.

We're asking the community to provide feedback on whether the public holiday should continue to be celebrated on the first Monday in August for the next three years, or if the date should be changed to September to align with the rest of the State.
