Fenced Off-Lead Dog Exercise Area Investigation
Community feedback has helped shape the future of a dedicated fenced off-lead dog exercise area in Karratha.
In early 2025, we asked for your feedback on creating a dedicated fenced off-lead dog exercise area in Karratha, as part of a broader review of dog exercise spaces in the City. With more than 4,000 registered dogs in our community, we understand how important safe and accessible spaces are for both pets and their owners.
We received 110 responses to our community survey, with strong support for a fenced facility.
After considering the results of the survey and supporting study, Council endorsed the Richardson Way Park site as the preferred location for a new off-lead dog area at the August 2025 Ordinary Council Meeting.
Richardson Way Park was identified as the most suitable site due to its central location within Karratha and its ability to address a provision gap between Cattrall Park and Bulgarra Recreation Precinct.
What's Next?
This project will be incorporated into the broader master planning process for the overall Richardson Way Park site. This will include consideration of a new fenced dog exercise area alongside other potential recreational and community uses - such as a proposed Bike Park - and ensure that infrastructure and services at the site are planned and located efficiently to meet diverse community needs.
Master Planning for the site is scheduled to commence in early 2026.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their views. Your input helps shape projects that make our community a great place to live—for people and their dogs.
