Feasibility study to explore potential upgrades

Wickham Boat Beach ramp is believed to have been constructed in the 1970s or early 1980s as part of the Port Walcott Yacht Club (PWYC) development.

The main boat ramp servicing Point Samson, Wickham and Roebourne is in John’s Creek Boat Harbour, Point Samson. However, in recognition of the community and recreational value of the Wickham Boat Beach ramp location, the City of Karratha is embarking on a feasibility study for a potential upgrade to this facility.

What will the feasibility study deliver?

  • Identify the defects of the existing ramp
  • Investigate opportunities to upgrade the ramp, boat trailer and vehicle parking and provide better value and functionality for boat launching facility
  • Identify the feasibility of desired ramp improvements and possibility for a jetty alongside

Stage 1 of the study will identify a recommended upgrade option based on site constraints prior to proceeding with further detailed design drawings to enable a staged delivery of any construction.

Thanks to the Department of Transports via the Recreational Boating Facilities Scheme (RBFS) for funding this project.

Update on Completed Community Workshop

On Thursday, May 1, 2025, a community workshop was held to:

  • Share the findings of the recent site survey
  • Share and receive feedback on the proposed ramp upgrade options, including carparking

16 Wickham boat ramp users attended and provided feedback on three proposed Wickham ramp design concepts as well as carparking. The community presentation has been provided below, as well as the feedback results which were collected via a Slido activity.
