Which Community Infrastructure Plan projects are currently underway?

Across 2024 and 2025 the City of Karratha developed the Community Infrastructure Plan 2025-2035.

The Community Infrastructure Plan was developed after assessing our community infrastructure needs, by understanding the requirements of our growing and diverse population and identifying the gaps in meeting these requirements.

Around 270 people across our community got involved and shared their thoughts through:

  • A community survey
  • A survey for specific facility user groups
  • In-person focus group meetings
  • One-on-one stakeholder meetings

The City thanks everyone who took time to provide their feedback.

The City is using the plan to:

  • Guide investment in future community infrastructure upgrades and new infrastructure across:
    • Sports and Recreation
    • Community and Civic
    • Arts and Culture
  • Provide evidence to advocate to the state and federal governments for funding and grants
  • Show the community what is being planned and when it will be delivered over the next 10 years.

The plan will be reviewed every 2 years to make sure it remains relevant.

  • 47 projects have been identified across sport and recreation, community and civic, arts and culture, across the City's towns and over the short, medium and long-term
  • You can see more information about each project in the plan
  • The plan sets out many important priorities, but due to limited land, resources, and funding, not everything can happen at once
  • Many projects are interconnected, so careful sequencing is key
  • Delivering the full plan will require support from state and federal governments and the private sector.

In 2025 the Western Australian Labor Government promised $6.7 million towards 4 new outdoor covered courts for the Karratha Netball Association to enhance all-weather, year-round play. Read more about the funding here

This funding promise is key to the City’s decision to start working on the development of master plans for 3 of our sporting precincts.
